ELTON

Saint Bernard · Male · Young · 2 years

Elton is a big snuggly bear; he is affectionate and loving. He adores a fuss and will shower you with slobbery kisses. Elton forgets his own size; can he fit on your lap? -possibly not! He’s a big goof ball who you’ll quickly fall in love with. Instantly friendly with anyone and everyone, keen to meet and greet and make new friends. Most of the time he walks nicely on his lead however, due to his size, he can be strong when he is excited to get somewhere. Elton is excited to meet and greet other dogs and does so like a bulldozer; he would benefit from having his humans help him slow down his meets so he can meet in an appropriate, polite way. (A member of our dog welfare team can demo and help you with this.) Elton is happy to go for walks with other dogs and is happy to get on with his own interests, like sniffing the bushes. He enjoys playing with toys, he loves a football to play with and extra-large dog balls. He is a big fan of any doggy treats. When it’s time to relax in the home Elton is a couch-potato and will stretch out on a comfy bed or lounge out across the rug. Elton is a fantastic two-year-old St Bernard looking for a loving home. He has good history of living with children and could share his home with secondary school aged children. He can be clumsy and has accidently knocked over small children. He could potentially share his home with another dog that would be tolerant of Elton’s boisterous nature. Elton is looking for a home without cats and small furries. He has been okay on his lead to pass on by cows and horses. Elton is happy and excited to have visitors to his home and could cope with a reasonably busy household. He is housetrained and he travels well in the car.

About ELTON

What life with ELTON looks like

ELTON is a extra-large young adult saint bernard dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Ilfracombe.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting ELTON, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ELTON?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ilfracombe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ELTON on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ELTON if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ELTON already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ELTON isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe early rather than rehoming privately; they know ELTON and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
