Adopt Elvis

European Shorthair · Male

Arm, more - Elvis. The cat was found at a feeding station in a deplorable health condition and is now gradually fighting his way back to life. Right now, we are mainly focused on making sure he finally starts feeling better. To the extent that he allows it, he doesn't really like human attention yet. However, we can already observe some small progress: he now comes out to eat, even when someone is there. And we have already managed to catch a few little blinks from Elvis. Elvis is a wild cat who has probably been roaming outside for years, unneutered and FIV positive, managing somehow to get by. We still don't know what will happen next with him. Elvis cannot be kept in an apartment, but because of his FIV diagnosis, he also cannot go back outside. A secure outdoor access would be ideal... For now, the main thing for Elvis is to calm down, get healthy, and finally experience security. We cannot yet say how much closeness he will allow one day. But we hope for people who also give a cat like him a chance - without expectations, but with patience, understanding, and heart. We will first make sure his health improves and keep you updated on everything.

About Elvis

What life with Elvis looks like

Elvis is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Herne-Wanne in Herne.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elvis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elvis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Herne-Wanne handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elvis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elvis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Herne-Wanne will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elvis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elvis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Herne-Wanne early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elvis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
