adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Emil has found its own home! His story: Emil settled well in his foster home and is now waiting for his own home! Emil is about 10 years old – but you wouldn’t guess it. He likes to snuggle on the sofa, but as soon as he gets up, Emil is active and runs around. He still has plenty of energy. Emil is people-oriented and just wants to be liked. He is attentive and shows a willingness to learn. Even as a senior, a visit to the dog training classes would still be fun for him. Emil enjoys snuggling with the two-leggeds and really enjoys the cuddles. He is already house-trained and gives nice paw shakes, and “sit” already works well. With full energy, he jumps into the car; car rides work well, but he is still a bit restless because he can’t wait for a walk. For Emil, a cat-free home would be ideal. He has a mild prey drive regarding rabbits, but that’s not surprising for a Terrier-mixed breed. In his foster home, there are also chickens; he ignores them. Emil gets along well with children of all ages. He is good with female dogs, but male dogs have to be on his good side. Emil is a great dog and can live both in the countryside and in the city. Emil likes to scratch with his hind legs and grunts occasionally like a piglet. Simply adorable! Terrier-mixed breed Emil has a shoulder height of about 55 cm and weighs around 24 kg. He is missing half of his left ear, and his right ear is torn. Additionally, he is currently suffering from an ear infection, but is in veterinary treatment. Which special person will open their heart to adopt our wonderful Emil and spoil him properly in the coming years? A big thank you goes to Marion S., who gave him a name and thus an identity. As of: 02.01. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Stand: 02.01.2025

About Emil

What life with Emil looks like

Emil is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Emil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
