Emily

Greyhound · Female · Adult · 4 years

Emily is a timid girl who is looking for a family that can show her the world isn't such a scary place. She hasn't had much experience with other dogs outside of greyhounds and will need owners who can continue supporting her with her dog social skills out and about. Luckily Emily walks nicely on lead and travels well in the car so would be able to go on walks in quieter areas with her new family. Emily doesn't love the vets, but is a very brave girl and is currently learning that humans can be nice and cuddly too. Luckily she is currently living off site with one of our amazing foster careers who is slowly helping her build her confidence in this area. Once she knows you well enough, Emily is a cuddle bug and really builds a strong bond with her human. Emily is a sweet 4 year old greyhound looking for a cosy home to snooze her days away. She is a lovely girl who is a bit timid at first and so would prefer all children in the home to be older secondary school age and know when to give her space. Emily has shared a kennel with other greyhounds before and could potentially live with another dog in the home, pending they are a similar size and match her calmer energy, but she would also be happy to be the only dog. Being an ex-racer Emily does have a high prey drive and will need to be kept on lead around all livestock and smaller animals. However, true to her breed she doesn't necessarily need lots of exercise, preferring a good zoomie once or twice a day before flopping on the sofa for another long nap!

About Emily

What life with Emily looks like

Emily is a adult greyhound dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emily, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emily?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emily on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emily if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Emily already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emily isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emily and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
