Enzo

Podenco · Male · Puppy · 2 months

Enzo was no longer wanted when it became clear that he was deaf, so one of our partner kennels in Spain took him on and found him a foster home where he is currently living and getting used to life in a home environment. He is living with other dogs and cats and gets on great. He’s very playful, as you’d expect a puppy to be, and has lots of cheeky moments. Being deaf doesn’t stop him being happy and confident but of course he will need to learn with visual rather than verbal cues so any adopter should bear that in mind. Its hard to say what size Enzo will be when he is an adult as we haven’t seen mum or dad, but at 2 months old, he is around 4kg. Podenco puppies/adolescents are very cute, but they need consistent training, patience and understanding especially through the adolescent phase where we find a lot of people tend to struggle. If you apply to adopt a podenco puppy, please ensure you have properly thought through the challenges you might face whilst they mature into a wonderful adult where you can then reap the rewards of your hard work. It is a wonderful experience to bring up a pod puppy, but it is not for the faint hearted! Enzo will be vaccinated and tested for all Mediterranean diseases. He is passported and available for adoption now (for the UK he can travel at 6 months old for EU he can travel at 4 months old). He will also require neutering at the appropriate age. About Enzo

What life with Enzo looks like

Enzo is a puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at Hope for Podencos in Albacete.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Enzo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Enzo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for Podencos handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Enzo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Enzo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for Podencos will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Enzo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Enzo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for Podencos early rather than rehoming privately; they know Enzo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
