Jill

Podenco · Female · Puppy · 6 months

Jill is a gorgeous young Podenco puppy who was found straying with no chip. Luckily, she came across some of our wonderful Spanish partners who were able to get her to safety. She is now in foster in Spain where she is learning all about living in a home. She’s already quite a big girl and although we can’t guarantee final size, we do expect her to be on the larger side. It means she’s already testing out counter surfing and got lucky one time with a big bowl of crisps (see photo!). She’s a confident, curious girl who takes everything in her stride and charms all that she meets. She’s a great allrounder and could live in a variety of homes. She met a feral cat colony and did well around them so we are classing her as cat workable. Podenco puppies/adolescents are very cute, but they need consistent training, patience and understanding especially through the adolescent phase where we find a lot of people tend to struggle. If you apply to adopt a podenco puppy, please ensure you have properly thought through the challenges you might face whilst they mature into a wonderful adult where you can then reap the rewards of your hard work. It is a wonderful experience to bring up a pod puppy, but it is not for the faint hearted! Jill will be vaccinated and tested for all Mediterranean diseases. She will be passported and is available for adoption now (for the UK she can travel at 6 months old for EU she can travel at 4 months old). She will also require neutering at the appropriate age. About Jill

What life with Jill looks like

Jill is a large puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at Hope for Podencos in Albacete.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jill, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jill?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for Podencos handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jill on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jill if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for Podencos will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jill already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jill isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for Podencos early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jill and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
