Eric

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Eric is one of those cats whose journey has been long, the past has left its mark, and so his future needs to be placed in the hands of somebody truly extraordinary. Eric has been in our care since the end of November 2025. When he arrived, he was desperately unwell and emaciated. He had never known the comfort and security of a real home. Having spent many years being bred as a commodity, life had given him very little of the love, safety and companionship that every animal deserves. He was a shell of a being in every sense; no shine, no spark, just listless. He arrived unable to control his bowels and as those who have followed his journey on our social channels will know, his road to recovery has been anything but simple. There has been countless appointments, treatments, setbacks, worries and moments when we wondered what the future might hold. Eric and his dear friend Sebastian were both found to be harbouring Campylobacter. Tragically, despite everything that was done, we lost Sebastian. For his body it was all too little too late. Utterly devastating. But we were able to save Eric. And Eric kept fighting. With extensive treatment, care, patience and support, we have managed to get him as well as we can, with the hope that this will only continue further. His recovery has been remarkable - although he does still live with chronic gastrointestinal issues that are likely to be something he manages for the rest of his life. He has also recently undergone hernia surgery which understandably set him back a little. Although, once again, Eric has shown us just how much strength and determination he has. And now, finally, after everything he’s been through, we feel he is ready for the next chapter of his life. We feel that Eric is ready to start looking for his forever home - but we need to be completely honest. This will not be just any home. For Eric, we are searching for somebody incredibly special. Somebody compassionate. Somebody who understands that perfection isn’t what makes a soul special. Somebody who can see beyond the occasional accident and understand the story behind it. Eric is now doing so well, but because of his ongoing gut problems, there may still be times when he has toileting accidents. His future family will need to understand that this is part of Eric’s life and that his gut troubles are likely to be lifelong. He will need ongoing supplementary support and people who are committed to continuing the care that has brought him this far. We will support as much as we can for anything relating to his gastrointestinal issues, however, there is the expectation insurance will be taken out for all other medical issues. As a charity, we can only do so much, although our love and support for Eric will not stop just because he leaves our care. We know taking on a cat like Eric may sound daunting. We also know that this means Eric may have to wait a little longer for the right person. But we will wait. After the life he has lived, Eric deserves nothing less than the absolute right home. Ideally, his new family would be able to give him a safe space of his very own while he settles. A conservatory would be wonderful, or a dedicated room that can be set up specifically for Eric, ideally with easy-to-clean flooring such as lino. This would be Eric’s room. His sanctuary. His safe place. A place where he can adjust to the sights, sounds and routines of home life at his own pace, without being overwhelmed. Somewhere his family can manage any accidents easily and without stress or worry, while allowing him the time and security he needs to understand that this time, he is safe. As his confidence grows, he may gradually be able to enjoy access to more of the home. And if his family needs to go out, having his familiar safe space available means that, should he have an accident, it can be dealt with easily and calmly. Because that is what Eric needs. Calm. Understanding. Patience. And unconditional love. He is a Savannah cat, and he is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. But we are not looking for somebody simply because they want a beautiful cat. We are looking for somebody who wants Eric. The Eric with the history. The Eric with the scars of a life that wasn’t kind to him. The Eric whose body may always need a little extra support. The Eric who may not walk into a new home and instantly become somebody’s best friend overnight. Because trust takes time. As his fosterer carer, Jem knows that better than anyone. It has taken from November 2025 until now to reach this point with him. Building his trust and helping him feel safe has been a journey. It hasn’t happened overnight, and his future family must understand that moving into a new home will be another huge transition for him. He is beautifully settled with Jem now, but any new visitor does frighten him, so his new family will need to give him time to find his paws. They will need to allow him to come to them. To learn their voices, their routines. To learn that hands can be gentle. That food will always come. That he is safe. And then, slowly, beautifully, the bond will begin. We cannot promise that Eric will be a cat who walks into his new home and instantly becomes a lap cat. But we can say is this: Eric is a companion cat. He has the potential to form the most extraordinary connection with the person who is willing to give him the gift of time. And when that bond comes, we truly believe it will be something incredibly special. Because Eric is not just any cat. He is one of those souls who stays with you. One of those rare, beautiful beings who has been through so much and yet still has so much love and companionship to give to the right person. He is, quite simply, a soul cat. 🤍 The person who opens their heart and home to Eric will need to be patient through the settling-in period. They will need to accept that there may be accidents. They will need to understand his tummy may always require management and support. They will need to appreciate that progress may sometimes feel slow and that there may be little setbacks along the way. Yet, they will also have the privilege of watching a cat who has never truly known a normal home learn what it means to belong. Imagine being the person who finally gives Eric that. The final piece of his puzzle. After years of being treated as a commodity. After arriving emaciated and unable to control his body. After illness and treatment. After losing his best friend Sebastian. After every hurdle he has had to overcome. Imagine being the person who finally gets to say: “You’re home, Eric. This is yours now. You don’t have to go anywhere ever again.” That is all we want for him. Not just a home. His home Not just an owner. His person. His soulmate. We know that person is out there somewhere. Someone who will read this and not see the accidents as a reason to scroll past. Someone who won’t be frightened by the fact that his journey is ongoing. Someone who understands that the most beautiful things in life are not always the easiest. Someone who will see past the extra care and see the extraordinary soul underneath. Someone who will give Eric the time he needs to trust. And someone who, one day, will look at him and realise that every moment of patience was worth it. Because Eric has fought incredibly hard to get here. And we have fought incredibly hard alongside him. Now we just need to find the person who will take his paw and walk with him through the rest of his journey. Eric deserves his happy ever after. More than that… After everything he has endured, Eric deserves the happiest ever after we can possibly give him. So please, if you think you could be the exceptionally special home Eric is searching for — or if you know somebody who could be — please complete our adoption form or share his story. His perfect person has to be out there. And we will keep searching until we find them. Please note with the increase in cost of veterinary treatment we now require adopters to take out relevant insurance - we will provide more information during the adoption process. Every cat deserves the opportunity to be provided with the required veterinary treatment should they need it during times of illness or injury. About Eric

What life with Eric looks like

Eric is a extra-large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at RSPCA Stourbridge and District in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Eric, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Eric?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Stourbridge and District handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Eric on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Eric if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Stourbridge and District will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Eric already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Eric isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Stourbridge and District early rather than rehoming privately; they know Eric and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
