Erwin

Mixed Breed · Male

"Mein Herz möchte erobert werden" Gender: male, neutered, and fixed Gets along with dogs: Social walks are possible Children in the same household: no Home sought: in the countryside Erwin had a difficult start in life and still carries this backpack with him to some extent. Thanks to loving training, he has already learned to handle some situations more calmly. However, his people need dog experience and the willingness to engage with him and his body language. Due to his bad experiences, he needs a lot of time to build trust. Once he has convinced someone of his worth, he sticks with them through thick and thin. Then, he also loves being stroked and snuggling on the couch. Erwin needs people who accept him as he is. He wants to go for walks regularly and be in the cozy dog bed or on the couch with his people. Ideally, there should not be more than 2 people in the household without other animals. For Erwin, social walks are also okay after a get-to-know phase. Erwin is house-trained, goes calmly on a leash, and rides calmly in the car. Since too many people approaching him directly stress him out, his future home should be in the countryside.

About Erwin

What life with Erwin looks like

Erwin is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Erwin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Erwin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Erwin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Erwin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Erwin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Erwin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Erwin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
