All dogs Eyk Print Published: March 26, 2026 Date of Birth: estimated February 2019 Gender: male Breed: Mix Shoulder Height: 58cm Weight: 25kg The wonderful male dog Eyk came to us at the animal shelter in 2021, and unfortunately, we have not received any inquiries for him... Eyk was born in Romania in February 2019, he is neutered and microchipped. When Eyk was brought to us at the end of 2021, we had to approach him carefully and slowly. However, he quickly accepted some of the animal caretakers. At home, Eyk unfortunately injured a person. We do not know the reason. Perhaps he wanted to regulate family life as he thought it should be. Now, Eyk has been in the animal shelter for almost 5 years and has learned a lot. He regularly attends dog training classes and is very diligent and eager to learn. Eyk goes for walks with experienced handlers and accepts them. He just doesn't want to be touched directly, as he needs to build trust. But when you spend more time with him and he learns that you mean no harm, he is a really great dog. Eyk's challenges show up in dog encounters and also in meeting strangers or those who enter his comfort zone. He barks at dogs he doesn't know. We are working hard on this, and he is developing well. So far, he has not shown any aggressive behavior when barking at other dogs. But now for his good sides :) Eyk wants to learn... a lot... he has so much fun doing it. For treats, he will do anything! His learning achievements include: "Sit, Down, Roll, Bark, Paw, Stay, and Play Dead." When he is on the leash and you call him, he responds well. He loves going for walks, exploring everything, and "reading the newspaper." Eyk is the perfect dog if you want to go on longer walks. Eyk often runs in a dog group. He gets along well with confident female dogs and male dogs.

About Eyk

What life with Eyk looks like

Eyk is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Eyk, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Eyk?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Eyk on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Eyk if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Eyk already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Eyk isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Eyk and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
