Fafik

Male · Senior · 11 years

Fafik is a sensitive dog whose life fell apart in an instant ☹. Not long ago, he had a home and a caregiver whom he loved very much. Unfortunately, due to the owner's serious illness, Fafik ended up in an animal shelter. For many months, Fafik could not come to terms with this, and the chronic stress caused him to become practically a skeleton ☹. He did not want to go for walks, nor did he get too comfortable with us. Fortunately, he is slowly finding his way in this difficult reality. He is slowly regaining a healthy weight, and walks are starting to bring him pleasure. Fafik is also opening up more to new people, although he is not a dog that immediately allows everyone to hug him. Fafik needs time to trust someone. In stressful situations, he can defend himself with his teeth. Fafik walks nicely on a leash and responds to calls. He is a good eater, so he comes eagerly for treats. He gets along well with other dogs, is not pushy, but rather stable and calm. Recently, Fafik went on a trip outside the animal shelter and it turned out that he feels like a fish in water in the city. In the car, he proved to be an ideal passenger. In the park, he came back to life, ran happily, and approached other dogs to play - we have never seen such a happy Fafik in the animal shelter. Cyclists, runners, trams, cars, and quite a lot of traffic - this does not bother Fafik at all. From people who knew Fafik from his "previous life," we know that Fafik is rather afraid of children and is sensitive to changes in living arrangements. For Fafik, we are looking for a home with a stable lifestyle. Fafik needs routine, peace, and patient caregivers who will give him time and respect his boundaries. Fafik is not suitable for a home with small children, but he could probably live with other pets. We think this is a dog that would find his way even in a busy city.

About Fafik

What life with Fafik looks like

Fafik is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: History of severe stress and depression following owner's illness; needs routine, patience, and gradual trust-building; may defensively bite when stressed

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fafik, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fafik?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fafik on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fafik if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fafik already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fafik isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fafik and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
