Adopt Fee

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Senior · 11 years

Fee has been through a lot in her life and has experienced a great deal of hardship. The last few years she spent in a socialization station, after she was seized and brought to our animal shelter. Her ears are poorly cropped – likely just cut off with scissors – and at first, she was very unpredictable when meeting other dogs. Now, Fee is back with us and has changed: she has become calmer, still as affectionate and loyal to her human as we know her. However, one thing remains – she remains uncompromisingly incompatible with other dogs! On walks, she can be led well, but one should not be under the illusion that Fee would ever seek, wish for, or have a good ending with fellow animals. True to her Terrier nature, she also shows a strong prey drive, though it is not redirected towards moving stimuli like cars, bicycles, or similar. For Fee, we are looking for people who live in a rural setting; a large house is by no means necessary. What is much more important is that she can finally find a place – in a quiet, warm, and secure environment with people who love and accept her as she is: as a solitary princess. Experience with dogs, ideally even with Terriers or her breed, should be present to provide Fee with a stable and relaxed home. Due to her breed, Fee is classified as dangerous in some federal states. This means she must wear a muzzle, and in some municipalities, an increased dog tax applies. As a future owner, you should meet certain requirements, which we would be happy to discuss with you. If you are interested in meeting Fee, please contact us. To do so, please fill out the interested party form via the "Inquire about dog" link. This way, we will have all the relevant information for an initial conversation right away.

About Fee

What life with Fee looks like

Fee is a large senior american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fee, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fee?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fee on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fee if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fee already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fee isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fee and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
