Adopt Fenna

Female · Adult · 4 years

This lady with the big ears is our Fenna, a mixed breed Flemish giant, but quite a bit smaller than a real Flemish. She was brought in by us as a stray, but unfortunately not picked up by her owner. Maybe she did grow a bit bigger than expected... Fenna is a sweetheart, extremely friendly and adventurous and loves food. We often end up in a mess because of her antics. We regularly find her in the vegetable garden box, her hideout has to be moved from place to place and her ears seem to get bigger every time she hears us coming with food. With other rabbits, Fenna is a real queen: everything is hers, her rules apply and she doesn't tolerate any disagreement. She wants a male who washes her and does what she wants, because otherwise she will teach him. A kind, caring, neutered rabbit male is therefore high on her wish list. In addition, a spacious hutch with the same run, enough treats to chew and nibble and fun challenges that make a rabbit's heart beat faster. Can you meet these demands of Mrs. Fenna? Fenna is waiting desperately!

About Fenna

What life with Fenna looks like

Fenna is a adult rabbit waiting at Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden in Leiden.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fenna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fenna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fenna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fenna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fenna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fenna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fenna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
