Adopt Ferdi

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

male Bracke-Mix, 58cm Born April 2017 Surrendered neutered [x] yes / [] no At the animal shelter since 21.07.2025 ________________________ Ferdi was sadly surrendered to us due to a lack of time. He was rehomed as a young puppy through international animal welfare and originally came from Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is a very friendly, people-oriented, and cheerful dog who greatly enjoys attention and mental stimulation, sometimes becoming very affectionate and jumping up in joy. He is looking for a home that will meet him with stability, provide him with a quiet environment, and engage in activities with him. Generally, Ferdi has some catch-up needed in dog training; in his new home, it should be ensured that he does not become too enthusiastic in greetings and, in particular, that he learns to walk calmly on a leash – so far, he pulls very strongly and is hard to hold back. The goal should be for him to orient more towards people. Character-wise, he is a dream, but we unfortunately see Ferdi as unsuitable for a home with small children and with seniors or people who cannot match his strength and enthusiasm. Leaving him alone in the previous home did not work out: Ferdi was very restless and even destroyed things. We actually observe him here at the animal shelter as quite balanced, but he still needs a home where he can adapt flexibly and be trained in small steps. Ferdi is conditionally compatible with other dogs; we could imagine him getting along well with a nice female dog, depending on their chemistry, but not with male dogs. We would be happy if Ferdi could receive additional typical breed mental stimulation beyond the daily walks, such as through hide-and-seek and scavenger games where he can use his nose. Ferdi has a typical prey drive and is not always recallable, which must be considered for the protection of other animals, especially wild animals. We wish the handsome, lively fellow a quick start to a home filled with love and attention! ________________________ (As of 10.08.2025) (Click images to view in full size!) männlich Bracke-Mix, 58cm Geboren 04/2017 Abgabetier Kastriert ja / [] nein Im Tierheim seit 21.07.2025 ________________________ Ferdi wurde schweren Herzens aufgrund von Zeitmangel bei uns abgegeben. About Ferdi

What life with Ferdi looks like

Ferdi is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ferdi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ferdi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ferdi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ferdi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ferdi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ferdi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ferdi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
