Figo

Male · Puppy · 4 months

We met Figo when it was a puppy, like all puppies, it was adopted quickly. Over time, the family that adopted it decided they couldn't take care of it, resulting in Figo being full of insecurities in a kennel enclosure. After years with us, we thought we had found the right family, and after being adopted for nearly a year, Figo has returned to us for reasons beyond its control. Figo has always been a shy and sensitive dog. When it was a puppy, no one taught it that the world wasn't dangerous, and it came full of fears, fearing everything: a quick gesture, a bowl of food, an attempt at play... With work and much patience, it eventually came out of its shell. Since then, it has continued to progress, but it still needs understanding and time, especially when it picks something up with its mouth, fearing someone might take it away. It's not a bad dog; it's just that when it needed someone to teach it, that person wasn't there. But beneath all this, there's a noble, affectionate, and super playful dog. It's a social dog, though it needs some time to show its personality. It walks nicely without pulling, and it also gets along well with other dogs, although ideally, it would be an only child. At home, it has been described as a calm dog. What hurts us most in this situation is that its progress has been halted by returning to a kennel enclosure, and it's a shame because it hasn't done anything wrong. Figo doesn't deserve another abandonment; it deserves a happy ending, but this time, it should be definitive, with a family that can provide it with security. This animal needs to be the only pet in the home.

About Figo

What life with Figo looks like

Figo is a medium-sized puppy/kitten dog waiting at Protectora Malaga in Málaga.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

Note from the shelter: Resource guarding tendencies, needs patient approach with food/toys

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Figo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Figo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Malaga handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Figo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Figo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Malaga will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Figo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Figo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Malaga early rather than rehoming privately; they know Figo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
