Filou

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Filou could be rehomed in March 2018 to a new home in Grimma. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… I am male, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and born around 2009. I am approximately 40 cm tall. I have been waiting since October 2017 for a home. My caregivers say about me: Filou is a dog that was rehomed by us because a child in the family was severely ill. He is happy to be here and misses his family life. Filou is accustomed to apartment living, is house-trained, and a good passenger. His joy is immense when it’s time to go for a walk, he is especially popular with both small and large visitors to the animal shelter. He would like to learn a bit more about training, but it is not strictly necessary as he brings basic knowledge with him to the new home. But whoever would enjoy it, Filou is always up for an adventure. He meets every two-legged creature friendly and open, is cuddly and pleasant with people, and also enjoys the company of fellow animals, whether playing and exercising or just in quiet situations. Then, being alone is not a problem. He would like to move in as a second dog, preferably to a female dog. Of course, he can also be rehomed as a single dog, and we can also imagine him leading a princely life if the appropriate accommodation is ensured and he can maintain contact with four-legged friends in dog runs or dog schools. A house with a garden would be nice, but is not a condition. Ideally in a family with children under appropriate supervision and with the guidance of adults. Filou is an ideal beginner dog and well-suited for people with jobs. Who would like to give the uncomplicated and friendly Filou a chance at a new home of his own?

About Filou

What life with Filou looks like

Filou is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Filou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Filou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Filou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Filou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Filou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Filou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Filou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
