Fiona

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

The beautiful Fiona has been the second dog and successor of Fjalar since early 2017. Our former Trixi is raising the bee and everything is going well... Have fun with the new owners and the new pack!!! …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. I am female, will be spayed and was born in 2013. I have been waiting for a new home since September 2016. I am about 55 cm tall. This is what my caretakers say about me: Fiona was seized by the authorities and moved in with her companion Flummi. Fiona is a sensitive dog, who is rather watchful due to insecurity, which can certainly be guided into the right direction. We think she is compatible, but this needs to be tested on an individual basis. Since other animal species were also affected during the seizure, we think Fiona is very adaptable to other animals. Fiona is a friendly dog, sometimes a bit unsure, which however quickly subsides. She is healthy and lively, walks well, plays and runs happily, a dream dog for interested parties with sporting ambitions. Behavior and leash training should definitely be worked on, mental stimulation with new owners should be easy for Fiona, she is still very playful and well-motivated. Fiona is a bright mind and will certainly quickly understand that it's fun to achieve new training goals together and then cuddle extensively. Fiona is not a barker but watchful, she can stay alone very well with her companion Flummi. She is a well-behaved passenger and is accustomed to apartment living, however she still needs to perfect her housebreaking due to inadequate care in her previous home, which she will certainly learn immediately. She is an ideal first dog and can also be rehomed into a family with due care. Since she is used to being a second dog, it would be nice if she could be rehomed as a second dog, otherwise one must be prepared for more training and adjustment time upon adoption. Who wants to start anew with the fast bee…??? The descriptions are impressions and recordings of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal may develop differently in its new home.

About Fiona

What life with Fiona looks like

Fiona is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fiona, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fiona?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fiona on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fiona if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fiona already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fiona isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fiona and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
