Floki

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Floki is a male, neutered mixed breed (herding dog proportion) born approximately May 15, 2025, weighing around 62 cm / 27 kg. He had a somewhat rocky start in Spain but was fortunate to spend two carefree months with Monika before traveling to Switzerland at the end of October 2025. In Switzerland, Floki has developed into a sturdy young male. However, it became clear that he is overwhelmed by the more urban environment. Despite intensive work, his family had to make the difficult decision to find a more suitable home for Floki. At the foster home, Floki shows himself to be fundamentally friendly but is in the midst of puberty and needs clear structures and fair, yet firm guidance. He reacts with mistrust and uncertainty, especially in confined situations and around some women, and needs support here. However, Floki is also a very eager learner who wants to please his caregivers and learns enthusiastically. He walks excellently on a leash, loves driving cars, can already be alone for some time, and gets along well with all dogs, large or small. When meeting other dogs on a leash, the person handling Floki should provide security. He reliably carries out commands he knows, and even the recall works well without major distractions. In the home environment, Floki's herding dog proportion is evident in the form of control. However, he can also be controlled here and comes to rest. Floki is an active male who enjoys long walks with his human companion and also wants to be mentally challenged. We are looking for a rural, quiet home for Floki, preferably with a single male or a couple with dogs, ideally experienced in herding dogs. He clearly needs defined rules that are consistently implemented. He will not be placed in an apartment block or large housing estate as this is too cramped for him. Children should also not live in the new home. A well-socialized, calm first dog would be possible, which could be discussed individually. Floki knows small animals and is accustomed to a muzzle. Can you imagine giving the handsome Floki a safe forever home? For more information about Floki and an informal meeting, please contact us by email.

Pflegestelle Ebnat-Kappel SG Männlich, kastriert Geboren ca. 15.05.2025 Mischling (Herdenschutz Anteil) Höhe: ca. 62 cm / Gewicht: ca. 27 kgFloki hatte einen etwas holprigen Start ins Leben in Spanien. About Floki

What life with Floki looks like

Floki is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz in Switzerland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Floki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Floki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Floki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Floki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Floki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Floki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Floki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
