Flower

Chihuahua · Female · Young · 1 year

Flower is looking for a calm, adult-only home where her boundaries will be respected and she can settle into life without pressure. She would be happiest as the only dog in the home so she can continue to build her confidence with the full support of her adopters. As a young dog, she will need continued house training, lead training, and all the other basics that come with raising a puppy. Any time left alone should be introduced very gradually as she adjusts to her new routine. Her adopters will need patience above all else—the key to earning the trust of this sweet little girl is allowing her the time and space she needs to blossom into a confident companion. Flower is an adorable Chihuahua girl, approximately 1 to 18 months old, who is looking for a very special home. She is a shy and worried little dog who takes time to trust new people and will need several meet-and-greets before she is ready to go home, allowing her to build trust with her new family at her own pace. Flower has had very little experience of the outside world, so many everyday sights and sounds can feel overwhelming. Her new family will need to be patient, understanding, and committed to helping her gradually build confidence through positive experiences. Despite her worries, Flower is a typical playful Chihuahua who enjoys playing with toys and, once she feels safe, has a fun and affectionate personality waiting to shine.

About Flower

What life with Flower looks like

Flower is a young adult chihuahua dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Flower, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Flower?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Flower on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Flower if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Flower already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Flower isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Flower and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
