adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Forrest has finally found a home! His story: What have you already experienced, sweet Forrest? During an attempt to rescue another dog, you were found together with him in a forest, far away from the nearest village. You survived on trash. Since you didn't have a microchip, no owners could be found. Roxana rescued you as well. She describes you as follows: Most likely, Forrest has never been petted in his life and didn't know what it meant. Now, as he learns what it means and how it feels to receive affection from people, he really enjoys the cuddles, even though it takes him some time to get used to it. Although he is still very shy and reserved around strangers, he NEVER shows any signs of aggression. Since Forrest also doesn't know the leash yet, it's not so easy to get him out of his pen, but if it works, he only takes a few steps and enjoys lying in the sun. When he then has to go back to his pen, he is usually carried, and although the barking other dogs scare him a lot, he is usually quiet like a baby. He appears very submissive, sharing a pen with Montana, who obviously is the boss, which he accepts. Forrest is looking for dog-experienced people who don't expect anything from him at first and let him set the pace at which he comes. For we don't know what he has experienced so far. His initial shyness suggests that he hasn't had the best experiences. It seems that Forrest hasn't lost faith in people either. Maybe he hasn't even experienced life in a house yet, so some mishaps are likely to happen at first. We shouldn't hold that against him. With a lot of patience and proper training, he will definitely develop into a dream dog. Forrest is 60cm in height and weighs around 28 kg. From the appearance, it could be a herding dog mix. Forrest travels neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated with his EU pet passport and would be a great help in a foster home. If you want to show Forrest how wonderful dog life can be, apply through our homepage. Even though Forrest would rather move into his forever home, a foster home would also be a great help. Many thanks, Lena N.! You gave Forrest his name! Date: 20.11.

Vielen Dank Lena N.! Du hast Forrest seinen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 20.11.2023

About Forrest

What life with Forrest looks like

Forrest is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Forrest, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Forrest?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Forrest on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Forrest if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Forrest already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Forrest isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Forrest and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
