Fortunato

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 18 years

At our animal shelter, we welcome every day abandoned, elderly, or sick cats, offering them care, respect, and a dignified life. Our mission is to combat abandonment and promote sterilization as a fundamental act of responsibility: preventing unplanned births means reducing suffering, homelessness, and emergencies that often affect the most vulnerable. Today, we present Fortunato, a special cat who arrived from Siena. His name tells a lot: despite the difficulties, he has the good fortune of finding a safe place where he is followed with attention and love. Fortunato is an elderly cat with a gentle gaze and a fairly sociable personality. He loves human presence, can be approached, and appreciates being petted, all in line with his health conditions. Fortunato suffers from triaditis, a complex condition involving the liver, pancreas, and intestines that requires constant monitoring, specific diet, and regular veterinary check-ups. Due to his advanced age and the delicate nature of his clinical condition, we do not seek a traditional adoption for him but an exclusive remote adoption. The animal shelter represents a stable environment for him, where he can be followed daily and receive all the care he needs without facing additional stress. Choosing to adopt Fortunato remotely means contributing concretely to his medical expenses, tests, medications, and specific food he needs. It is a gesture of great value, allowing an elderly and fragile cat to live with peace and dignity. If you wish to support Fortunato, you can find all the information in the section dedicated to remote adoptions on our website. Together, we can ensure Fortunato receives care, safety, and much affection, continuing to fight every day against abandonment and for the well-being of every cat in need. About Fortunato

What life with Fortunato looks like

Fortunato is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali in Italy.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fortunato, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fortunato?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fortunato on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fortunato if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fortunato already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fortunato isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fortunato and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
