adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Franz can stay forever in his foster home! His story: Franz and his siblings Gimli, Amir, Ferdinand, Odo, Kiri, Siska, Feline, Malia, and Lidy had a truly difficult start in life. Their mother, Fee, gave birth to the litter in an abandoned house in a village near Zalau. The neighborhood found out and wanted to kill the puppies. Our animal rescuer Sonia saved the mother and the ten puppies and took them in at her home in the garden. As the puppies grew very quickly and Sonia could only keep them until mid-February, the little ones are desperately in need of a home. The sweet, white Franz is a true work of art. With his black ears and black spots, he simply looks stunning. He already weighs a proud 8 kg on the scale and is likely to grow even more, as his mother measures 63 cm. Franz is typical for a puppy, very playful. He likes people very much and enjoys being stroked. Whether he also likes fellow animals, including cats, we do not know. He must of course still get used to a leash and harness, but that should not be a problem. Franz is looking for people who do not expect anything from him at first and show him how a normal dog life works. He is still a baby and has a lot to learn. Sometimes he might make a little mess, but we should not take it personally and always accompany Franz with a positive and reinforcing training style. He is looking forward to his new life with beautiful nature walks, many cuddle hours, and also a visit to puppy school. In the first year of life, puppies should not be left alone as much as possible. Additionally, the more demanding pubertal phase is approaching. The hormone chaos turns the little rascals' lives upside down. They "forget" much of what they have learned and their ears are on full alert. Therefore, it is especially important in this phase to consistently – but lovingly – train. But there is also good news: It is only a phase, and it will pass! Franz travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated, with his EU pet passport in his luggage. An adoption or even a foster home would be very, very helpful. Thank you, Edna, for giving Franz a name and thus an identity. Status: 07.01.

Stand: 07.01.2025

About Franz

What life with Franz looks like

Franz is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Franz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Franz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Franz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Franz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Franz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Franz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Franz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
