Adoption Fee: 11,000 SEK Brought from: Limerick Animal Welfare Currently Located: Foster Home in the Stockholm Area Can Live with Dogs: Yes Can Live with Cats: Don't Know Can Live with Children Aged: 9-13 years and older What Kind of Environment Suits Him: Can live in a quieter area Activity Level: Medium Previous Dog Experience of Adopter: Has previous dog experience Fred was rescued from a puppy farm and ended up at a rescue organization in Ireland. Fred is now living in a foster home in Sweden. Fred’s foster home says: “Little Fred has been with us for 1½ weeks now. He’s a curious, mischievous little guy who loves playing with his canine friends—running fast, playing tug-of-war games. He has no fears of either large or small dogs and takes the initiative to play himself. He really likes having something to chew on, so he tries everything out thoroughly, maybe also because his adult teeth are coming in. When it’s time to rest, he likes to lie down next to a friend, but he can also sleep by himself. It’s fine to pick him up for a cuddle session, and he relaxes happily on your lap. He’s curious and follows us wherever we go, getting excited and doing a little dance if we’ve been out of sight for just a moment. He’s very interested and closely watches activities like watering with a hose and vacuuming—and wasn’t bothered at all when he was lying under the counter while I was pounding schnitzels. On day two after he arrived, there was a loud thunderstorm; he ran and hid then, but maybe it was mostly the surprise that got to him. He comes when we call his name, but we’re not allowed to touch him. He follows us around closely and is great at begging for food—he can get quite cheeky and will eat almost anything. Cucumber is one of his favorites, as is a sandwich. He doesn’t like it when a hand comes from above. He’s incredibly sweet and well-behaved. A smart guy who learns quickly.” Fred needs a calm environment with secure canine companions where he can thrive. Welcoming a puppy into your life brings both joy and responsibility. It requires time, patience, and commitment over an indefinite period.

Skicka då in en intresseanmälan. About Fred

What life with Fred looks like

Fred is a medium-sized puppy/kitten dog waiting at Hundar Utan Hem in Stockholm.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fred, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fred?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundar Utan Hem handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fred on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fred if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundar Utan Hem will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fred already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fred isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundar Utan Hem early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fred and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
