Adopt Freddy

Shar Pei · Male · Adult · 4 years

📍 Current Location: Lower Austria Freddy is a likely 2022-born, neutered Shar Pei-mixed breed male dog who was straying on the streets, captured, and brought to the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. He is already in Lower Austria. He possesses a very friendly, open nature and warmly greets all people. He can never get enough cuddles. He is an energetic pup who looks forward to long walks and plenty of mental stimulation. He is intelligent, shows a keen learning interest, and is easily motivated. Group training makes him incredibly happy. The simple pup walks nicely on a leash and recall works in the garden already.Freddy is the perfect family dog and would also feel comfortable in families with children. He rides in the car, where he jumps in independently, calmly, with a box providing security. He is house-trained, bell not, and remains well-behaved alone for an appropriate period. He gets along well with all fellow animals; how he reacts to cats is not known. He seeks loving and active people who want a cheerful and attached buddy, have sufficient free time, and live in a house with a garden. Some experience in dog care should already be present. The male dog stands 54 cm at the shoulder and weighs 22 kg.

Er ist ein bewegungsfreudiger Bub, der sich über ausgedehnte Spaziergänge und viel Beschäftigung freut. Er ist intelligent, zeigt sich lerneifrig und lässt sich leicht motivieren. About Freddy

What life with Freddy looks like

Freddy is a large adult shar pei dog waiting at Animal Care Austria in Wien.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Freddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Freddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Freddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Freddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Freddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Freddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Freddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
