Adopt Odin

Poodle · Male · Senior · 10 years

Odin - the "Inspirierte," the "Rasende" - comes from a hunting line. He has been partially trained for hunting, but to lead him as a hunting dog, he would need to learn quite a bit more. Rottweiler-type dogs often show independent behavior and can be quite stubborn when they don't want to do something. Unfortunately, it seems that his upbringing has been lacking, as Odin sometimes doesn't recognize boundaries and doesn't know when enough is enough. However, Odin is a very eager and intelligent companion who participates enthusiastically in training and has already made good progress. Further work should also be done with the male dog in his new home, as he is eager to learn new things and expects this from his owner. Although a mild hip dysplasia was diagnosed in Odin, it has not caused him any problems so far. He does not get along well with children or other animals, so they should not live in the same household – he, however, shows good compatibility with fellow animals. Odin wishes for active people who already have experience with hunting dogs and can provide him with a home with a garden.

About Odin

What life with Odin looks like

Odin is a senior poodle dog waiting at Tierschutzhaus Sonnenhof in Eisenstadt.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Odin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Odin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzhaus Sonnenhof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Odin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Odin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzhaus Sonnenhof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Odin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Odin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzhaus Sonnenhof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Odin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
