Adopt Freya

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

loving, playful, adaptable Freya came to us together with her sister Holly. The first months of their lives were spent among over 6,000 other dogs at Smeura, and their world was rather limited. So they really enjoy being here, experiencing new things, playing in the grass, wrestling with their toys, and enjoying life. Freya is a lively young female dog who absorbs everything new like a sponge and is always in good spirits. She is very people-oriented, but still has to learn almost everything. As she runs through life with great curiosity and bravery, she will also laughingly accept all upcoming challenges. So far, Freya has never seen a house from the inside, and the concept of "indoor cleanliness" is still unknown to her. On the leash, she has already made some first excursions into the nearby environment and greets everyone with open arms; she is simply a little whirlwind sunshine :- ) For Freya, we are looking for people who have enough time for a young puppy and are aware that Freya will thoroughly mix up their life and once everything will turn "left". Whether or not Freya knows cats, we cannot say, but she is problemlessly compatible with other dogs. If you have questions about Freya or the desire to meet her, her mediator is happy to help. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Freya

What life with Freya looks like

Freya is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt in Essen.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Freya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Freya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Freya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Freya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Freya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Freya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Freya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
