(link to the video in the gallery bar; text must be identical to the text in the anchor) The dog's name Frieda is waiting so long for the right people! This furry nose was rescued from the Romanian street and taken in at the animal shelter. More information about how the dogs come to the animal shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal protection FAQ. Frieda is a female dog who apparently experienced very little security in her previous life. She is extremely reserved at the animal shelter and spends most of her time in her hut, where she seeks protection. In new or stressful situations, she freezes completely and hides in the farthest corner. If she is touched carefully, Frieda shows no aggression and allows the contact to happen. In individual moments, it was observed that she gently takes treats from the hand or sniffs carefully for a short time. These small gestures show that despite her great fear, she notices and allows contact in tiny steps. Frieda is generally compatible with other dogs and not food aggressive. She lives alternately with male and female dogs without any conflicts occurring. We assume that there is a herding dog (HSH) in Frieda. Please inform yourself here about the requirements for adopting a herding dog. HSH mixes are often very independent and need a confident leadership. Frieda urgently needs a calm, low-stimulus place where she can arrive. For her, we are looking for a quiet, preferably rural home with experienced and patient people who meet her with understanding and empathy. A confident only dog could be a support for Frieda, as she strongly depends on fellow animals and gains security from them. We wish for this furry nose people who are aware that rescue dogs bring some history with them. We can never predict in the animal shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany. Therefore, we are looking for people who have patience, perseverance and goodwill. But one thing is certain: Who adopts instead of buys, not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read through the adoption process. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas and neutered (exceptions are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you still have questions, feel free to send our adoption team a message.

About Frieda

What life with Frieda looks like

Frieda is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Frieda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Frieda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Frieda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Frieda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Frieda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Frieda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Frieda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
