GAIA (F) 5 years - to be adopted by BorderLineCollie Characteristics Date of birth: 5/09/2018 Sex: Female Registered with LOF/LOSH/ISDS: No Disabilities: No Child interaction: from adolescence onwards Dog interaction: yes Cat interaction: no Other interaction: not known Character Gaia is described by her owner as a gentle, affectionate, playful and sociable female. Once she knows you, she is very happy to be near you. However, Gaia does not know how to behave with the young son and therefore accumulates stress. This is how Gaia bit a toy held high by the little boy who was playing. From that event, Gaia goes to her cage or outside when the son is downstairs. This "separation" is a source of stress and discomfort and has prompted the owners to ask BorderLineCollie to find a more suitable home for Gaia. History Gaia arrived at her owners when she was just a puppy. Her early socialization was not very good; Gaia was bought from a well-known puppy mill in Brabant. She has always been unsure of herself and is afraid of tall people, long objects like the vacuum cleaner and mop, and kennels. In addition, she cannot assess the behavior of small children and therefore does not know how to handle them. The owner has consulted a behavior therapist for her manifested fears, but this has resulted in no change in Gaia's behavior. She loves to run freely in the woods and obeys the recall well. As soon as she has to walk on a leash in the street, she attacks people and dogs. Gaia is accustomed to the cage, has no problem traveling by car and does not cause any traffic. She has completed basic training at a dog school. Gaia does not like thunderstorms and firecrackers or fireworks during New Year.

About GAIA

What life with GAIA looks like

GAIA is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Border Line Collie in borderlinecollie.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting GAIA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about GAIA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Border Line Collie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw GAIA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt GAIA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Border Line Collie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is GAIA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if GAIA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Border Line Collie early rather than rehoming privately; they know GAIA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
