Gajana

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Gajana is a beautiful dog with a troubled past. Her story also shows how indifferent people are to their dogs. Gajana had a family, not as we imagine it, but still. They lived in Nagykörös, just outside the city center. One day they left and left Gajana alone. She was suddenly nobody's dog, on her own. She started to roam around the area to find food for herself, there was no one who would give her something edible from time to time. This did not please the residents at all and they drove Gajana away. She was not welcome and this made her more cautious and afraid. Eventually, the animal shelter was informed. But Gajana had lost trust in people and could not be caught easily. The not so nice expulsions have left their mark, which is completely understandable. The last possibility was to set up a live trap, stock it with fine food and hope that hunger is greater than fear. On 30.5.2026 Gajana actually went into the trap and she could be brought to the animal shelter in Kecskemét. The quarantine period has ended and Gajana is ready to start a happy future. We keep our fingers crossed! Gajana is a grateful, friendly and loving dog, slightly shy at first, it takes some time until she gives her trust. But understandable, after having had such experiences and not being wanted anywhere, in search of help and food. With patience, understanding and caresses she thaws relatively quickly and when she knows someone, she is a loyal and affectionate four-legged woman. And what a great dog that she is still willing to trust humans. She needs a lot of love and security. Her new people should give Gajana security and introduce her step by step to the everyday things in life. She wants to please and wants to be challenged and promoted, so that she can develop further into a great and loyal companion. Certainly, at the right time, she would have much joy in sporting activities and would be a great companion for everything that dog and human have fun with. Gajana is a smart four-legged animal and her new people should enjoy teaching her a few things, because Gajana knows almost nothing of the dog multiplication table. We are sure that Gajana will be happy and eager to learn when her two-legged friends sit down with her at school and practice, then she will quickly have what was missed. She gets along well with her fellow dogs and is currently (26.6.2026) being integrated into a mixed pack. For our enchanting and brave Gajana we are looking for enthusiastic dog lovers who go through thick and thin with her. They love, appreciate, understand and respect. Enterprising people who catch up on what was missed with Gajana and show her how it feels to have a caring home of their own, a bowl of food, a soft bed and their own people who spoil them with many caresses, exciting walks, dog-friendly activities and full family connection. To whom may Gajana give her heart?

About Gajana

What life with Gajana looks like

Gajana is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gajana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gajana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gajana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gajana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gajana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gajana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gajana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
