Galgo

Galgo Español · Male · Adult · 5 years

Galgo looks and has a temperament similar to a Manchester terrier - small, slender build in a shiny, smooth coat, long, neat legs that carry him far on walks and a look yearningly searching for someone familiar who will take him on a walk. He needed a few days to catch his breath, a few more to start to warm up and be fed, and a few more to present himself as cheerful, social and energetic! Today he gladly uses the yard - he likes to accompany familiar people, he will bring (or not) a thrown ball, eats whatever is given, but clearly takes care of his figure and is not a dog demanding treats. Someone once showed him kindness and Galgus remembers this human kindness, so he quickly forms new friendships. He always comes when called and on the yard he just likes to stand by us, hugging our legs. At the animal shelter he learned to walk on a leash and is now also training to get into a car. We think that in the future, in his own home, he will learn everything! Galgo really likes to be active - on walks he sniffs a lot, looks around and looks for interesting places. He tries to avoid strangers and other dogs. It also happens that he walks in a group of familiar dogs - then he always tries to be first, often closer to the person than the rest of the companions, but he also participates in chases, mutual sniffing or looking for puddles of water. He tries not to get into conflicts - it's clear that being with other dogs is not foreign to him. The animal shelter is a difficult place for Galgo. Although young and full of energy, he also likes to relax quietly. In the kennel he doesn't destroy anything but the noise of the shelter is hard for him to bear. In a house he would certainly want time and a quiet place to rest. Galgo lives in an outdoor kennel, it's winter and he's very thin, so we really hope he can move to his own home as soon as possible. Ideally, he would find himself in a quiet home in a quiet area away from heavy street traffic. We encourage you to contact us regarding meeting with the dog keeper!

PL·Show original

Galgo z wyglądu i temperamentu przypomina manchester terrriera - drobna, smukła postura w lśniącym, gładziutkim futerku, długie, zgrabne nogi, które niosą daleko na spacer i spojrzenie, tęsknie wypatrujące kogoś znajomego, kto na ten spacer zabierze. Potrzebował kilku dni, by nieco odsapnąć, kilku następnych, by się trochę odkurować i odkarmić, i jeszcze kilku kolejnych, by się zaprezentować jako wesoły, kontaktowy i energiczny piesio! Choć młody i pełen energii to lubi też spokojnie wypoczywać. Zachęcamy do kontaktu w sprawie spotkania z psistojniaczkiem! About Galgo

What life with Galgo looks like

Galgo is a medium-sized adult galgo español dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs quiet environment away from noise, requires warm shelter in winter due to thin build

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Galgo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Galgo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Galgo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Galgo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Galgo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Galgo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Galgo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
