adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Gandalf has found a home! His story: Completely helpless, Gandalf wandered between the cars on the street near the Romanian city of Bistrita, but our heartwarming helpers on site recognized the danger and immediately took the young dog under their wing. Now, the very people-oriented Gandalf lives on a foster home in Germany and shines there as an absolute sunbeam. His foster family refers to Gandalf as a "giant baby" because he appears loving, cuddly, and gentle. He is also extremely friendly with children and would like to be stroked all day. The heartbreaker already masters the basic commands like "sit!", "stay!", and "lie down!" flawlessly. When walking on a leash, he is also becoming more secure; initially, Gandalf was quite stormy and not properly focused. The gentle white giant presents himself very friendly to strangers, and he quickly includes fellow animals and cats in his heart. It should be noted that the sweet guy can be a little excited and stormy at first, but this is being worked on intensively. Car rides are also an adventure for Gandalf, but he already masters them. Currently, he is 3 years old and measures 75 cm. With that, he is still a young guy who is more than ready for his forever home. Since our shelterling probably carries herding dog genes, he should receive a rural home and physical and mental stimulation. HSH mixes can be very demanding and vigilant because they were once bred to protect sheep from wild animals. Gandalf's forever human or his forever family should ideally have dog experience and consistently raise him. With a cozy cuddle-dog and regular cuddles, you will surely take him in quickly. Has our Gandalf already enchanted your soul? His big suitcase is packed and ready to go. Gandalf is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas and will be rehomed after a positive Naturally, he also brings his valid EU pet passport. We say a heartfelt thank you to the patron family Hof, which gave Gandalf the legendary name and thus a valuable identity. As of: 25.01.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! About Gandalf

What life with Gandalf looks like

Gandalf is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gandalf, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gandalf?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gandalf on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gandalf if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gandalf already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gandalf isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gandalf and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
