adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Gandalf is a young male dog who immediately stands out with his calm and balanced demeanor. He meets people in a friendly and open manner, without being pushy, and appears pleasant and at ease. He was found in a village near Vaida and now lives in a private shelter. Despite everything he has been through, he shows himself to be a very approachable and cooperative dog who can adapt well to new situations. In the company of other dogs, Gandalf is compatible and unproblematic. He is not one of those dogs who must always be in the center of attention, but rather the quiet companion who simply walks along and impresses with his pleasant nature. With his approximately 20 kg, he brings a medium build. alf is not a dog who blindly follows or must be constantly occupied. He brings a natural calmness, but still wants to be understood and fairly led. A home in a more quiet environment with a garden would suit him well. Bustling, narrow city conditions or constant changes are, however, not what he thrives in. Gandalf likely still does not know what life in his own home is like. Things like everyday noises, fixed routines, or life in the house still need to be learned. With patience and clear guidance, he will find his way step by step. Positive dog training classes can be a good support in this. Gandalf is microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas and brings his EU pet passport with him. He is available for those who are looking for a balanced, friendly companion. Many thanks to his namesake Gaby R.! You gave Gandalf his name as of 13.05.

About Gandalf

What life with Gandalf looks like

Gandalf is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gandalf, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gandalf?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gandalf on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gandalf if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gandalf already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gandalf isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gandalf and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
