GANDHI

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 12 years

UPDATE MARCH 6, 2017 GANDHI is such a handsome fellow. When he arrived at our shelter, we were greatly impressed by his condition; he didn't even have the strength to bark, with severely infected ulcers on his toes and paw pads. Many of you will remember his case; although his Leishmania is still active but controlled, his paw pads have recovered. Due to the extensive infection, a phalanx of one of his toes was amputated. This is today's fighter and strong GANDHI, who, with the care of Eva, Diego, and the girls, has managed to recover and become the great dog he is today... and what's left to come. GANDHI is looking for a permanent family and will be put up for adoption once the veterinarian advises us to do so.------- GANDHI appeared in very poor condition on the street, suffering from an untreated Leishmania that caused ulcers all over his body, especially on his paw pads. Fortunately, his organs are not affected, so treatment has begun to neutralize his Leishmania. He is currently in foster care and will be adopted once he is fully recovered and cleared by the veterinarian.

About GANDHI

What life with GANDHI looks like

GANDHI is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at APADAC — Protectora de Animales in Spain.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting GANDHI, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about GANDHI?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. APADAC — Protectora de Animales handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw GANDHI on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt GANDHI if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — APADAC — Protectora de Animales will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is GANDHI already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if GANDHI isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with APADAC — Protectora de Animales early rather than rehoming privately; they know GANDHI and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
