adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this cat! This wonderful tomcat named Garfield is searching for his home. The approximately one-year-old kitten was found in the neighborhood of the original Romanian foster home with his other four brothers when he was around three months old and was eventually brought to safety by one of our animal welfare workers. In early July, he had the great fortune to travel to one of our fantastic foster homes in Germany and is now waiting to find his people. In the new environment of the German foster home, Garfield was initially very overwhelmed and is generally more reserved towards people. He will also need time to build trust with his two-legged family in his new home and should be given the necessary time and patience. For this, he has immediately integrated into the existing pack of the three other toms. He is very social and gets along well with the other furred friends. Therefore, he would love to find a home where at least one equally social furred friend is already waiting for him. If you don't already have a kitten waiting for him, he would be happy to bring a friend or a companion with him. Additionally, he would like to stay in a safe environment and can therefore do without going outside. However, he would still be delighted with a cat-safe netted balcony to observe the birds. This, however, is not a placement requirement. Our handsome tomcat is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, flea-treated, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. He also has an EU pet passport and is now waiting for his new home. After a positive assessment, of course, he can also be visited in the foster home. Many thanks, Monika V. Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen!

About Garfield

What life with Garfield looks like

Garfield is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Garfield, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Garfield?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Garfield on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Garfield if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Garfield already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Garfield isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Garfield and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
