Garri

Male · Young · 3 years

Meet Garri, a handsome three-year-old Saluki with the gentlest of souls. Garri is a truly delightful companion who enjoys nothing more than a leisurely stroll by your side. Calm, polite, and easy-going, he makes every walk a pleasure and is happiest when taking life at a relaxed pace. Garri gets on wonderfully with dogs who share his gentle nature, especially our lovely lurcher, Jenny, for whom he has completely fallen head over heels. She is undoubtedly his favourite walking buddy, and he always greets her with a wagging tail and a gentle sniff before they set off together. In kennels, Garri keeps his space exceptionally clean, which gives us a good indication that he will take naturally to home life. He could potentially live with another calm, compatible dog, pending a successful introduction. Garri may also be able to live with older children who understand and respect quieter dogs, again subject to successful introductions. While Garri loves affection and will happily sit beside you for a fuss and some attention, he is equally content to entertain himself. You’ll often find him curled up on the office dog bed, peacefully relaxing while staff get on with their work. Garri is a true gentleman through and through—calm, affectionate, and wonderfully well-mannered. He is looking for a loving home where he can enjoy life’s simple pleasures and be cherished as the special dog he is.

About Garri

What life with Garri looks like

Garri is a young adult dog waiting at Durham Dogs & Cats Home in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Garri, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Garri?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Durham Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Garri on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Garri if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Durham Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Garri already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Garri isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Durham Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Garri and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
