Gaston

Male Β· Young Β· 3 years

Meet Gaston! Gaston is looking for a patient, quiet and loving home where he can learn to feel safe and secure. He can be a very timid and nervous boy when you first meet him, and when he feels unsure, he may show this by being a little growly. However, once he begins to trust you and feels more comfortable in your company, a much sweeter side of Gaston starts to shine through. He is a friendly boy underneath those initial worries. He just needs time, understanding and the chance to build a bond at his own pace. Gaston is still unsure around new people, so he will need an owner who understands that trust cannot be rushed. He needs someone who will be happy to take things slowly, give him the space he needs and never expect too much from him too soon. With patience, kindness and consistency, Gaston will grow in confidence and learn that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. One of Gaston’s favourite things is going out for walks! He enjoys having a sniff about and walks nicely on the lead, making this a lovely way to spend time with him and continue building that all-important trust. Gaston is also very unsure around other dogs, so he will need to be the only dog in the home, where he can have his own space and feel safe without the worry of sharing his environment with another canine companion. Gaston is looking for a patient and understanding owner that will let him settle at his own pace, and is willing to give him the time and reassurance he needs to build his confidence. We are unsure how Gaston would react around cats. As Gaston came into us as a stray, we have no previous history on him, and as he can be very nervous we feel he would be best rehomed where any children in the home are 16+ years.

About Gaston

What life with Gaston looks like

Gaston is a small young adult dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gaston, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gaston?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gaston on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gaston if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Gaston already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gaston isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gaston and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
