Ripley

Male · Young · 3 years

Meet Ripley!! He is a gorgeous boy looking for an active, committed home where he can continue to learn and thrive. He’s a friendly, affectionate boy with a fun-loving personality and is always ready for a game with his favourite toys. He is full of energy and loves to play, so he will need an active family who can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and ongoing training. Like many young dogs, he can become a little mouthy and nippy when he’s excited, so he will benefit from patient guidance and positive reinforcement to help him learn appropriate manners. He is still working on his basic commands and will need someone willing to continue his training. He can also occasionally rag his lead, so further lead training will be important. Previous experience with Shar-pei’s would be a real advantage, as they can have their own unique characteristics and training needs. He currently has a cherry eye, which will be surgically repaired before he goes to his new home, so he’ll be ready to start his next chapter feeling his best. If you’re looking for a playful, lively young dog and have to time and commitment to help him become the wonderful companion we know he can be, Ripley could be the boy for you. Ripley has socialised well with other dogs and is very playful with them. He can sometimes get frustrated and bark if he can’t get to them straight away. We feel he could potentially be rehomed with another playful dog of similar size following a successful meet and greet. As Ripley came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on him and as he can be a little nippy when over-excited we would like any children in the home to be 16+ years.

About Ripley

What life with Ripley looks like

Ripley is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ripley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ripley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ripley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ripley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ripley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ripley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ripley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
