Gaylord

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Gaylord is a sweet little guy! And yes, his name is sure to bring a small smile. One could think that someone wanted to give him a particularly noble, almost aristocratic name and then at the last moment forgot that he is not a British nobleman, but a young dog with soft fur and big eyes. But somehow it still fits: Gaylord sounds like a little gentleman, who politely wags his tail around the corner and pretends as if he had spent his whole life on red carpet. A name that seems a bit too big for him - and that's why it's perfect. If you didn't know that he is in the animal shelter in Shumen, Bulgaria, you could actually believe he is a Golden Retriever puppy, who is just posing for the first family photos. So sweet, so soft, so open. But his reality is different: He was found alone on the street, without guidance, without protection, without anyone to take care of him. He has already lost too much valuable time of his imprinting phase. And yet - or maybe just because of that - he is a dog who encounters people with a kindness that immediately draws you in. Gaylord was born around November 2025. His shoulder height was about 46 cm in May, and of course he is still growing. He came to the shelter in March 2026, after he was discovered wandering alone. Like so many others, he was probably just abandoned. A sad pattern that keeps repeating itself. But Gaylord doesn't carry his past like a burden. He approaches the world with an openness that is truly admirable. He is an incredibly sweet, friendly young dog who immediately wins people's hearts. Active, playful, curious - a little explorer who wants to be challenged. When he stood on the leash in front of the shelter for the first time, he showed himself to be surprisingly confident. Carefully, but curiously, he explored the surroundings, as if he had done it several times before. A little natural talent is in him. Who masters new situations on the first try so well, brings something very special. Gaylord wants to please and he succeeds surprisingly quickly. And we are sure: If he only gets the chance to travel to Germany, he will show many more beautiful and funny characteristics. His fur is extremely soft, so soft that you could almost suspect that he had just been bathed. We see him despite his openness in a more rural environment. He hasn't known much so far and the hustle and bustle of a big city would probably overwhelm him. But with a quiet environment, clear structures and a step-by-step introduction to the new life, he will master everything with flying colors. He is a dog who wants to learn, who seeks attachment and who is ready to finally arrive. Now he only needs one thing: a person who gives him the chance to leave the first sad months of his life behind. Someone who doesn't see him as "the dog from Bulgaria", but as what he really is, namely a young, loving, gentle dog who finally deserves a home. He is prepared for departure, because he is chipped, vaccinated and will be neutered before the departure. Gaylord is currently in the animal shelter in Shumen, Bulgaria, which is run by the association Grund zur Hoffnung e.V. So lieb, so weich, so offen. About Gaylord

What life with Gaylord looks like

Gaylord is a large young adult mixed breed animal waiting at Tierschutz Celle in Celle.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Gaylord far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gaylord, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gaylord?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Celle handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gaylord on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gaylord if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Celle will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gaylord already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gaylord isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Celle early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gaylord and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
