Mixed Breed · Male

From the parking lot to the chicken coop: a strange adventure It all started on the parking lot of the Hyper U drive-thru in Blain. Between two shopping carts and a crosswalk, a small pigeon fell from its nest. Risking its life under the wheels of a car was definitely not a good career plan, so the rescued bird was entrusted to our association. Named Gédéon, he began a new life under our roof. For more than a month, we fed him with a syringe using a special diet worthy of a starred restaurant (Michelin? No, but maybe "millet-in" 🐦). Gédéon's commando training Once well fed, Gédéon had an adaptation course. Set up in an outdoor cage, he learned to recognize the sounds of daily life: The clucking of the hens, The unexpected crowing of the rooster, The diplomatic gossip of the geese, The barking of the dog, The meowing of the many cats, And of course... the cars, always faithful to their post. In short, a true sound survival course. If a pigeon must fly into the big world, it's better to be prepared for anything: from the nervous horn to the philosophical clucking of a hen deep in existential reflection. First flight: successful takeoff, landing... to be refined The big day arrived: we decided to release Gédéon. What joy to see him launch, spread his wings and proudly fly over the trees and the house. Well, let's be honest: the landing looked more like a comedy movie scene than an Olympic performance... but every champion has their beginnings, right? The choice of the chicken coop We thought he would take off with the other pigeons of his species. But no, Mr. Gédéon decided that chicken coop life was much more interesting. Since then, he sleeps every night with the hens, shares the morning corn and struts around as if he were the master of the place. After all, he has found the perfect combo here: White (thank you, rain), and especially... safe from hunters! Who can top that? Maybe during the mating season, his hormones will make him fly away. But for now, Gédéon has made his choice: his ship for life is... the chicken coop. A new recruit: the dove Last week, a new passenger arrived on board: a dove found in the middle of a busy road. She will also have the same path as Gédéon: customized meals, an adaptation course, and perhaps one day, a flight towards other horizons... or not! After all, the chicken coop is starting to look like a feathered inn where each bird in transit ends up settling permanently. Pigeon vs dove: cousins or roommates? Ornithological aside (yes, we also educate ourselves between two grains of corn): The pigeon is sturdy, a bit clumsy but endearing. A true air traveler, it likes to fly in groups and land on anything that resembles a monument. The dove, more elegant and fine, is the romantic cousin of the pigeon. Its gentle cooing has accompanied generations of gardens. But don't be fooled: beneath her distinguished appearance, she knows how to claim her share of seeds! So, will Gédéon and his new girlfriend form the first pigeon-dove duo in the chicken coop? Suspense... The chicken coop, an unusual refuge Among hens, rooster, geese, dog, cats, rabbit and now pigeons and doves, the chicken coop is beginning to resemble a real Spanish inn... but animal version. Everyone finds their place, their meal and their corner to sleep. And ultimately, it's probably this that makes magic of our association: welcoming the castaways, regardless of their size, species or feathers. A true Ark!!
