George AVAILABLE

Dalmatian Β· Female Β· Adult Β· 6 years

George is a charming 6-year-old Dalmatian, weighing approximately 31kg. He came into the care of Islay Dog Rescue through no fault of his own following a change in his family's circumstances. George is an incredibly affectionate dog who absolutely loves people and enjoys plenty of cuddles and fuss. He is happy to approach new people and readily accepts attention, making friends wherever he goes. He is a clever boy who already knows commands such as sit and paw, and he walks nicely on a lead, making him a wonderful walking companion. We have also been told that George is house trained. He enjoys his treats, which will make any ongoing training both enjoyable and rewarding. George has shown some nervousness around certain moving objects, such as walking sticks and large golf-style umbrellas. He is making good progress and would benefit from continued positive reinforcement and gentle desensitisation training to help build his confidence in these situations. With patience, encouragement, and consistent support, George is likely to become increasingly comfortable when encountering new experiences out and about. As we are unable to directly assess our dogs with children at the rescue, any recommendations regarding children are based on the dog's known history, observed behaviour, and the characteristics they have displayed while in our care. He has previously lived with another dog and, although he can be wary when meeting unfamiliar dogs, we believe that with careful introductions he could successfully live with a resident canine companion. George cannot live with cats or small animals.

About George AVAILABLE

What life with George AVAILABLE looks like

George AVAILABLE is a large adult dalmatian dog waiting at Islay Dog Rescue in Cumnock (Ayrshire).

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting George AVAILABLE, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about George AVAILABLE?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Islay Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw George AVAILABLE on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt George AVAILABLE if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Islay Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is George AVAILABLE already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if George AVAILABLE isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Islay Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know George AVAILABLE and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
