adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process George has found his home! His story: Georges story began on the streets of Romania. Weak and sick, he was found by one of our animal rescuers, who immediately took him to the vet and lovingly cared for his recovery. Due to his illness, some of his teeth had to be removed, but this does not hinder George in any way. Now he is ready to find his happiness in a loving home! The little George is also a real snuggler. He loves being surrounded by his people, enjoying cuddles and relaxing on the couch. On some days, he is a cozy couch potato, while on others he is a playful explorer – a perfect mix of a cuddly friend and a little adventurer! George also enjoys being the sole prince and getting all the attention from his people. George tested positive for FIV, but this should not be a reason not to adopt him if you are in love with George. FIV is a viral infection that can lead to a weakened immune system. However, FIV-positive cats can achieve the same proud age as a FIV-negative cat! The virus is only transmissible to other cats, and humans and other animals cannot contract it. Transmission could only occur if there are severe bite wounds between fellow animals. Therefore, a FIV-positive and a FIV-negative cat could live together in a household, share a bowl and snuggle spots, as long as all parties are compatible. Transmission through mating is also possible, which would not be an issue with neutered kittens. A free roam is not an option for George due to his illness. George is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and tested negative for FeLV. He also has an EU pet passport and is now ready to travel to his new home. Many thanks to Jen H. This cat needs outdoor access.

About George

What life with George looks like

George is a small adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting George, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about George?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw George on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt George if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is George already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if George isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know George and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
