George

Pointer Β· Male Β· Young Β· 2 years

Introduction: Gorgeous George is an exuberant, intelligent and joyous boy. He has a huge heart, personality and lust for life. He always greets us with a toy in his mouth, tippy taps of his paws and a wiggly body before parading around the room with excitement. We have recently done a DNA test on George, which has come back with 51% labrador and 49% pointer. Home wanted: George is active and incredibly smart. Would like a kind and patient home that can provide both mental and physical stimulation. He is housetrained, travels well and fine being left up to 4 hours. Would like to have his own secure garden to play and goof around in, so he can demonstrate how much of a perfect boy he truly is. Behaviour towards people/children: Confident and boisterous around everybody he meets. He carries a lot of enthusiasm with his greetings, usually embracing in a hug by standing on his hind legs and giving kisses to the face. Best in adult only home but may consider older teens in home if used to dogs of similar size to George and willing to take part in George’s ongoing training and fun activities. Other animals: Must be the only dog in the home due to conflict with other male dogs in his previous home. Would prefer no visiting dogs. May be able to make some dog friends on walks of similar size and personality. Would need to be slowly and carefully introduced to ensure personalities match, as he prefers females to males. Will need some ongoing support around some dogs. High prey drive, so not suited to living with cats, small furies or livestock as will chase. Additional needs (behavioural/extra support): High energy and active breed mix, adopters need to do research and ensure able to meet training and behaviour requirements. The Kennels Team will provide ongoing support to George’s adopters with his training and behaviour plan. Ideally would need a home with working breed mix experience. Adopters will need to visit George at least 2-3 times to get to know him and how best to support him in a home. Would prefer semi-rural or rural location rather than busy town/city. George would love nothing more than a home and family that can reciprocate the love and joy he brings to us in the Kennels Team. Watch his video above to see George’s true character in action!

About George

What life with George looks like

George is an extra-large young adult pointer dog waiting at Raystede Centre in Ringmer.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting George, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about George?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Raystede Centre handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw George on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt George if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Raystede Centre will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is George already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if George isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Raystede Centre early rather than rehoming privately; they know George and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
