Gerbil

Lurcher Β· Male Β· Young Β· 2 years

Gerbil can be nervous meeting new people so is looking to live with older secondary school aged children. He will need calm understanding adopters who are happy to take things at his pace. He enjoys spending time with calm dogs similar to his size but can be worried by more boisterous dogs so will need all his dog friends to be of a calm temperament. Gerbil is a really lovely boy with a lovely temperament and will make an amazing companion for the right person. Meet Gerbil our beautiful 2 year old Lurcher cross. This sweet boy is a little nervous meeting new people and in a new environment so is looking for a family that will show him at his own pace that the world isn't scary. He is able to live with children of a younger secondary school age that will understand that he can be nervous and will need his own space sometimes. Gerbil is looking for a home that can build his leaving hours up slowly. He isn't very interested in toys at the moment but hopefully once he's settled in to a new home his curiosity will grow. Gerbil is able to live with another dog pending a successful meet here at the centre, though he is looking to live with a calm dog of a similar size.

About Gerbil

What life with Gerbil looks like

Gerbil is a young adult lurcher dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gerbil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gerbil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gerbil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gerbil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Gerbil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gerbil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gerbil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
