Adopt Gerda

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Gerda arrived at our shelter on April 13, 2026, with her sister — Jagna. The girls likely wandered without a home for a long time and were difficult to catch for a while. Gerda is about 6 years old and is a very gentle, delicate sheepdog. At first, she might be a bit shy and cautious around new people, but a little patience is all it takes for her to open up and reveal her wonderful, peaceful face. In interactions with other dogs, Gerda does not seek conflicts — she is more withdrawn and calm. The female dog is learning to walk on a leash and is making huge daily progress. She is also house-trained. Gerda had already been neutered when she arrived, a sign that she was once someone's beloved pet. We very much hope that she can still be someone's cherished dog.

Gerda trafiła do nas 13.04.2026 r. razem z drugą sunią — Jagną.

About Gerda

What life with Gerda looks like

Gerda is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Konin in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gerda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gerda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Konin handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gerda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gerda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Konin will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gerda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gerda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Konin early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gerda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
