Adopt Gerda

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Gerda is a delicate, shy female dog with a fiery red coat. She arrived as a refugee from Ukraine. Initially frightened and distrustful, she has made great progress, opening up to human contact, and in a quiet area she handles the leash fairly well. However, the proximity of barking dogs causes her fear. During walks, she sniffs a lot, looks around curiously, but stays close to the person. What home are we looking for? For Gerdy, we are looking for a home in a quiet area, preferably with even a small garden that she can access freely. The caregiver of Gerdy should be a patient person, open to jointly overcoming her limitations, providing support and a sense of security. 🔵 Are you interested in adoption? Gerda to delikatna, nieśmiała sunia o płomiennorudej sierści. Jakiego domu szukamy? Dla Gerdy szukamy domu w spokojnej okolicy, najlepiej z choćby malutkim ogródkiem, do którego miałaby swobodny dostęp. Opiekun Gerdy powinien być osobą wyrozumiałą, nastawioną na wspólne pokonywanie jej ograniczeń, dający wsparcie i poczucie bezpieczeństwa. 🔵 Jesteś zainteresowany adopcją? About Gerda

What life with Gerda looks like

Gerda is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Viva Korabiewice in Korabiewice.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gerda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gerda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Viva Korabiewice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gerda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gerda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Viva Korabiewice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gerda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gerda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Viva Korabiewice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gerda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
