adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Gertie can stay with their foster family! Her story: The pretty, blonde Gertie made the jump to her foster home and is settling in wonderfully. At first a bit unsure, she quickly adapted and absorbed everything. Gertie is already house-trained, walks well on a leash, is loving, friendly, cuddly, and very people-oriented. She gets along great with her fellow animals. So all around, a Gertie to love! In the shelter, the wonderful Gertie was only cowering on her hut and barely moved. The lady who had previously taken care of her and her daughter Hedda passed away, and so the two female dogs came to the public shelter in Bistrita. That this is not the right place for the sensitive Gertie is immediately clear. She suffered greatly under the conditions and missed her dog friend Hedda and her former owner. Hedda was lucky and was already able to travel to Germany to her new family, where she is thriving. Only the sensitive Gertie was left alone. Gertie had slight lumps on both cheeks. The adhesions were removed in Romania and therefore she still has scars on the sides. The tissue was examined and is benign. Gertie is believed to have become stuck in a fence, unable to pull her head out. Gertie wishes for a rural home, preferably with a garden and not too much hustle and bustle, so she can settle into her new life in peace. She looks forward to beautiful walks and long cuddle sessions on the couch. A visit to a dog training class would also greatly please Gertie. At around 2 years old, she is out of the pubertal phase and stands at about 60cm in height, making her an average-sized female dog. Other dogs are a hit with Gertie, so other dogs in the family would be super for Gertie. She likes to play extensively with them and looks forward to shared activities. She will arrive neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas in her new home. Of course, she will bring her EU pet passport with her. For an adoption fee of 500 Euro and after a positive Birgit C.! You have named Gertie. Stand: 09.09.

Vielen Dank Birgit C.! Du hast Gertie ihren Namen geschenkt. Stand: 09.09.2024

About Gertie

What life with Gertie looks like

Gertie is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gertie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gertie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gertie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gertie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gertie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gertie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gertie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
