It is an acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, commonly called feline AIDS, because it resembles the human form of this disease. Infection mainly occurs through direct contact of the carrier's saliva with another cat's blood, for example, through deep bite wounds during fights. Cats with FIV can live with other FIV-infected cats, but also with healthy cats, provided the animals are calm and do not engage in aggressive fights. Only cats can be infected. Therefore, you, your dog, or you will not get infected, nor will you transmit FIV to your neighbor's cat. It is an incurable disease, but with proper care, its progression can be stopped, and a cat with FIV can live a long and happy life.
