Ghana

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

A lovable senior mixed-breed dog named Ghana is seeking a friendly home for her golden years. She arrived at the shelter in July 2026 and is estimated to be around 10.5 years old. For many years, Ghana lived in a loving home until she suddenly lost her familiar surroundings due to household accidents. Upon arrival, she was examined by a veterinarian and it turned out that Ghana only suffered from a urinary tract infection, which has since been treated. Losing her home is especially difficult for an older dog. After a life of security, Ghana now finds herself in the loud and stressful environment of a shelter - not a place where a senior should spend her days. Despite everything, Ghana has retained her loving nature. She is a friendly and affectionate dog who enjoys human company. On a leash, she walks pleasantly and relaxed, and with other dogs - both males and females - she shows herself to be tolerant and social. We urgently need a foster home for Ghana where she can find peace and experience security and comfort again. Even better would be a loving forever home where she can spend her golden years cared for and loved. Ghana has belonged to a family all her life and does not understand the world right now. We very much hope that someone will give this wonderful senior dog a chance and show her that sometimes the best years are yet to come. Who will give Ghana the love, patience, and comfort she so richly deserves?

About Ghana

What life with Ghana looks like

Ghana is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ghana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ghana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ghana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ghana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ghana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ghana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ghana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
