Gia &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 1 month

For a young mother dog raising her puppies without human help, a storm like the one in Spain at the beginning of 2025 was an unimaginable catastrophe. Cala was caught by the flood, thunderstorm, and cold snap in March with her newborn puppies. When she, a female dog around three and a half years old (as of April 2025), was found, she was despondently lying between her dead babies—only the little Gia survived the disaster and moved with her mother to our partners. Now, Cala no longer mourns and is a loving and attentive mother to Gia. The cheerful Podenca has made many friends among animal protectors and enjoys the fact that she can take on responsibility and finally be a dog. She is discovering more and more fun in playing and running around, and the now seven-week-old Gia is growing up surrounded by love and the joy of life. For Cala, we are looking for a understanding and patient family that will show her how the world works, what it is like to be loved and spoiled, and how to stroll through the neighborhood and beg for cookies. Cala has had to experience suffering and pain in her life, now it is time for her to learn the sunny side and never leave it again. For Gia, we wish for people who have a lot of time for a little knuckledog like our princess. A place in a family that knows that from the cute baby will soon become a moody teenager and a sporty female dog that wants to be physically and mentally challenged. If you are interested in Gia, please do not hesitate to contact us to learn how the little world explorer is developing. At the moment, she is simply a charming ball of fur that explores new things every day and spends 90% of her time with growing, eating, and sleeping… Mother and daughter wait patiently for their tickets to great happiness—hopefully, they can soon leave behind the world of bars and concrete floors and trade them for meadows, forests, and a spot on the couch!

About Gia &#8211

What life with Gia &#8211 looks like

Gia &#8211 is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gia &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gia &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gia &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gia &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gia &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gia &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gia &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
