Giannini

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

The shelter is always full, a relief that the LIDA shelter does not know. Economic problems that many Sardinians have fallen into due to the Corona measures have not been overcome. Some people personally drop off their pets and ask for help, while others simply leave them in a cardboard box in front of the LIDA shelter or tie them there. The ongoing tourist season also contributes to a massive influx. Therefore, hardly a day goes by without animals being found and dropped off. Additionally, the helpers of the LIDA shelter also pick up numerous strays. No one is turned away, even though the shelter is always on the verge of being overwhelmed. Six siblings were found at the edge of Olbia. Someone had abandoned the little ones there to their fate. We need not mention how much this heartless behavior continues to hurt us. But we will never get used to it. One of the siblings has already found its home. But the five remaining siblings—the four boys Geko, Giobbe, Giannini, and Giono, and the girl Ginny—now eagerly await their chance to leave the shelter and start a good future. We have gotten to know Ginny, Geko, Giobbe, Giannini, and Giono as friendly, lovable, and lively puppy siblings. We wish for them to soon find the perfect families that would give them a forever home with a close family connection. During our project tour in mid-October 2023, we also conducted a spay/neuter operation at the LIDA shelter. The brothers Geko and Giannini were among those to be neutered. At first, they were a bit shy and reserved, but after a while, they relaxed and lay comfortably on the preparation table. They enjoyed cuddles very much, and they remained calm and composed throughout the pre-operative preparations. Their operations were naturally also a success. It would be wonderful if Geko and Giannini did not have to wait much longer in the shelter. One can see that they would love human affection, but they receive far too little of it. The staff at the shelter cannot afford to give the dogs the individual play or snuggle sessions they need. There are simply too many dogs (and also cats) to care for daily. Ginny and Giobbe are already in Germany. In the shelter, Geko and Giannini are waiting, along with their brother Giono, to finally join them. And we hope that the three wonderful dogs will soon pack their bags and embark on their journey to Germany. Perhaps to you? September 21, 2025: A colleague and her daughter from the team spent part of their vacation time to personally meet some of the shelter animals, including Geko and Giannini. The two are incredibly open and people-oriented. They could not get enough of attention and cuddles and enjoyed being snuggled. They do not have any fear of touch—they are always friendly, cuddly, and full of joy. Would you give one of them a home where they can finally arrive and be happy? Giannini was able to travel to his German foster home. After almost four years in the Canile, Giannini finally had the great fortune to travel abroad. During the team tour at the end of April, his foster daughter got to know him and immediately recognized his potential. To avoid spending more time in the noisy and overcrowded Canile, he was allowed to travel to Germany at the beginning of May.

About Giannini

What life with Giannini looks like

Giannini is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Giannini, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Giannini?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Giannini on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Giannini if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Giannini already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Giannini isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Giannini and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
