Gilbert

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

In Linares, a small Sahnebaiser named Gilbert waits for a real home. This six-month-old (as of January 2024) heartbreaker appeared in some gardens at the beginning of December 2023, where the playful puppy played with children and hoped that someone would take him home. The parents observed the nice visitor for a few days to rule out that the owner lived somewhere in the area, and then brought Gilbert to the next animal clinic to check for a chip. Unfortunately, the little charmer is not marked, no one has reported him missing, and the loving veterinarians at the clinic recommended that the concerned rescuers turn to ArcoNatura to help Gilbert avoid the experience of Perrera. Now, the little button is with experienced foster parents who are preparing him for life as a loved and spoiled family dog until Gilbert gets his ticket to great happiness. So far, only positive things can be said about the Mini-Mix. He loves people of all sizes and appearances, finds other dogs great, and currently lives without problems with cats. Gilbert is not 30cm tall and can be easily tucked under the arm, but we want to emphasize that even the smallest dogs are real dogs. Gilbert wants to run and play, even with larger fellow animals, he wants to learn and explore the world, and he would surely enjoy attending dog training classes. Gilbert loves to cuddle and sleeps happily on the lap of his favorite people, but he is no sofa cushion – and young male dogs that are not occupied will find their own hobby, often one that pleases their owners less. If you know that every little man has a big heart, if you like being outdoors, if you have plenty of time to foster the clever little head of our Sahnebonbon, if you are an expert in cuddling and loving, and if your home can provide enough action for a happy young dog, then we look forward to hearing from you soon!

About Gilbert

What life with Gilbert looks like

Gilbert is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gilbert, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gilbert?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gilbert on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gilbert if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gilbert already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gilbert isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gilbert and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
